Another gite in an amazing location overlooking the Lac de Chambly. The region offers a huge variety of superb walks, not least the ascent of the Cascades du Hérisson – a series of waterfalls rising steeply along the Hérisson river. We made the mistake of going there on Sunday when things were busy, even in mid-June, and this was the only place in a month of travelling where we had to pay to park. Still, the experience was well worth it.
The Franche Comté is a region that is largely overlooked by tourists and remains almost undiscovered by the British, who have pretty much taken over the Dordogne. Long may it remain so. We felt almost at home in the French Jura, as we have family on the Swiss side of the border.
